At LAQ Academy, we know firsthand what it feels like to watch your child struggle in a system that wasn’t designed for them. We do things differently - creating a learning experience where children are understood, supported, and able to grow.

A letter from our founding board member:

Thank you for your interest in LAQ Academy and for considering us to be part of your child’s educational journey.

This school means more to us than what meets the eye, it is deeply personal.

My son, Greyson, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at a young age. We spent several years in an ABA setting, where he experienced meaningful growth in communication, independence, and his ability to navigate the world around him. During that time, I saw what was possible when a child is truly supported and understood.

Like many parents, I was hopeful and excited when it came time for him to transition into a traditional school setting. I envisioned him growing with his peers, building friendships, and moving confidently from one grade to the next.

While we missed ABA therapy and definitely felt the gaps, at first, our experience in public school was positive. I loved his teachers and providers, and the other students were inclusive. He made measurable gains. But over time, it became clear that the environment was not designed to support Greyson in the ways he needed. There was a moment - one I will never forget - when he became overwhelmed and disregulated. Instead of being met with understanding and appropriate support, he was seen as a threat, and law enforcement was called.

As a parent, there is nothing more difficult than realizing your child is not being seen for who they truly are.

That experience, along with many others, made it clear that there was a gap, one that so many families are quietly navigating every day.

LAQ Academy was created to fill that gap.

We built this school to be a place where children are understood, supported, and given the tools they need to succeed - not just academically, but as whole individuals. Our program brings together structured, standards-aligned education with integrated communication and behaviorally-informed supports, allowing students to access learning in a way that works for them.

Every decision we’ve made has been guided by one question:

“Would this support Greyson?”

And more importantly:

“Would this support children like him?”

LAQ Academy is everything I wanted to exist for my son—and more.

If you are a parent searching for a place where your child will be seen, supported, and given a real opportunity to grow, we would love to connect with you.

Warmly,
Laurie Aquilante
